If you'd rather reload your linetypes manually, you can do so using the Layer Properties palette. Open the Layer Properties palette by typing Layer in the Command line and pressing Enter.
The Load or Reload Linetypes dialog box will open. Select any linetype. Then select all linetypes by pressing CTRL + A (Windows) or Command + A (Mac).

Simple linetype is a combination of lines and text, whereas complex linetype contains complex shapes. You can only create single-line linetypes, not double-lines, so keep that in mind when you are creating these.
Note, if you fail to generate a linetype (due to an error), be aware that there is a limitation of 12 line segments that can be included in a linetype definition, and gaps count toward that limit. So in the example above, I would need to change the spacing to .2 line length and .2 gap to have the double length between the CATV words.
The CELTSCALE is relative to LTSCALE. By setting CELTSCALE to 0.5 the next line you draw will have a linetype scale factor which is half that of the lines drawn previously.
this is a great article and yet, after studying all the options for linetype scale, trying out all combinations of settings, I still get solid lines that are supposed to be dashed. it is annoying to say the least, I am starting to think my old ways of adjusting linetype scales in the property box is the best way to get what you want. I have drawings where I generate schematics through Stabicad, and some lines will show dashed as supposed to, while generating a schematic in the next drawing gives me solids, while every setting for each drawing is exactly the same. please work on the bugs within autocad instead of flinging a new version with added frustration onto us. I am busy working around problems as much as I am actually working. every update by either stabi or auto will give you some new challenges to overcome. it never really gets any easier. after a million versions you would expect an expensive product to work.
i have autocad 2015 student version and my line settings are @ by default that means when i enter co-ordinates for the next point i takes previous point as the base point instead of the (0,0) can you help me out. please
This visual property is controlled by linetypes. While in AutoCAD you can find a wealth of linetypes that come with the default installation, in some occasions you may need to create your own. Therefore, understanding how to create linetypes is a useful tool and can be added to your AutoCAD course.
In this blog, we will progress step by step through an AutoCAD course exercise where we create a linetype containing both text and shape objects. The final linetype will look like the one shown below.
In order to incorporate geometry into the linetype other than text, dashes and dots, it will need to be included as a shape object. Consequently, we will start by creating a shape for the hatched triangle inscribed in a circle shown above.
How do you handle linetypescale when drafiting? In Autocad I am able to set a linetypescale for each individual curve if needed (with the same linetype).Do you create a whole bunch of linetypes wtih the same appearance but different scales?
In my case I draft a floorplan for example and some details in modelspace. The floorplan contains curves with the hidden linetype with a scale of 100 and 200 for example. The details contain curves with the same hidden linetype and scales of 2 and 10.
Dear Mcneel, I have another question:How should I work if I want that my linetype (dashed or so) looks exactly the same in the Top View and in the Layout, independent from the scale of the detail?
@milezee and @OXII There are a number of variables that can impact display speed and performance in any version of Rhino. Could you make new posts to the forum with a sample model, the steps before if becomes slow for you and include the results of your SystemInfo command in Rhino? If we can reproduce the issue we have a good shot at improving things or may be able to offer a settings or configuration change suggestion to help.
Hey guys, So I'm stuck using Rhino for mac while out of town this week. While its not...terrible, there are certain things that are really annoying. For instance, there is only one linetype added in the defaults. I'm trying to add or create linetypes so I can work how I like to work on drawings, however I can't figure it out. On a PC, you can just copy .lin files into the program files or import them, but on Mac...idk. There are limited options in the preferences menu.Also--the camera keeps clipping my geometry and its super annoying when I'm trying to look at details. (this is also a windows issue) If anyone know how to fix this it would be helpful because this has always happened to me when models get pretty heavy.Also--I have some pretty minimal double curvatures in my file that I built with the networksrf command. Before I modeled these, everything was fine. But now when I run a clipping plane to look at the model in section, the lines look extremely glitchy. I've tried to select and delete bad object but there aren't any. I've been fairly clean with my modeling.Lastly, has anybody had experience with a good rendering software for rhino mac? There's maxwell, but I'm not paying for that. Anything free with decent output?Any thoughts, suggestions, tips and tricks for mac? I think this thread might be helpful for a lot of other people too, so feel free to add.
Go to File -> Settings and there you can find a tab called linetypes. If it is empty, you can either add your own linetype, or load the default ones by clicking the small "gear" button under the list.
The syntax for complex linetypes is similar to that of simple linetypes in that it is a comma-delimited list of pattern descriptions. The difference is, is that complex linetypes can include shape and text objects as pattern descriptors, as well as the normal dash-dot descriptors of simple linetypes. In this tutorial we are going to look at creating a complex linetype using a text object as a descriptor.
"A" is the alignment which is defaulted."1.0" and "-0.25" are pen commands as is "-1.25" at the end of the definition.["AL",STANDARD,S=1,R=0,X=0,Y=-0.25] is the one that interests us.The syntax of these fields are as follows :
scale (1)S=value. The scale of the style is used as a scale factor by which the style's height is multiplied. If the style's height is 0, the S=value alone is used as the scale. Because the final height of the text is defined by both the S=value and the height assigned to the text style, you will achieve more predictable results by setting the text style height to 0. Additionally, it is recommended that you create separate text styles for text in complex linetypes to avoid conflicts with other text in your drawing.
xoffset (0)X=value. This field specifies the shift of the text in the X axis of the linetype computed from the end of the linetype definition vertex. If xoffset is omitted or is 0, the text is elaborated by using the lower-left corner of the text as the offset. Include this field if you want a continuous line with text. This value is not scaled by the scale factor that is defined by S=.
yoffset (-0.25)Y=value. This field specifies the shift of the text in the Y axis of the linetype computed from the end of the linetype definition vertex. If yoffset is omitted or is 0, the text is elaborated by using the lower-left corner of the text as the offset. This value is not scaled by the scale factor that is defined by S=.
O.K. Now I'll put you all out of your misery! Under the Express Tools pull down menu (ExpressToolsMake Linetype) you will find the Make Linetype command. This is a shortcut for creating your own linetype files. The command can also be found on the Ribbon: Express tab, Tools panel. Now don't say I'm not nice to you!
AutoCAD saves linetype in an external file, with .lin extension. You can import the linetype definition into a DWG file and use it in a drawing. However, it is not possible to export the linetype back to .lin file. At least not with an out of the box AutoCAD.
I am running Autocad 2020 on a Mac OS. I am trying to turn all of my lines in one layer to be dashed instead of continuous. I loaded in a dashed linetype and have applied it to the layer I want. It doesn't change any existing lines to be dashed and doesn't make any new lines, polylines, splines, etc. dashed. It doesn't appear in model space, layout space or when I plot the layout.
AutoCAD is a designing and drafting application software where CAD stands for Computer-Aided Design. There are many designing tools in AutoCAD, such as Draw tools, Modify tools, Lyres, Annotation, etc. Lines are of them. The line is a command used in almost every drawing actually; without a line, you cannot draw any object in a drawing project. A line is an interesting tool in AutoCAD, and getting familiar with it is a good feeling; and after having good knowledge about the lines in AutoCAD, you will find you have developed an excellent command of AutoCAD designing software.
Before drawing in AutoCAD, we have to set a limit for our working space according to our drawing dimensions. Suppose my drawing dimensions are 200 x 200, so I will type limits from keyboard to active limit command and then press Enter key.
Now my workspace is ready according to my drawing. Let us start our tutorial with the lines command in AutoCAD. Lines are the basic command of drawing in AutoCAD. We will learn all aspects of line inline commands.
This is a guide to Lines in AutoCAD. Here we discussed Setting Limit in AutoCAD, drawing a straight line and inclined line, and making an Object by Line command. You can also go through our given articles to learn more- 2ff7e9595c
